Feast: Feast of Pentecost
Family Unit Meeting: Fourth Thursday
Holy Spirit is third Person of the Holy Trinity, consubstantial with the Father and the Son. Before the Passover, Jesus announced the sending of ‘another Paraclete'(Advocate), Holy Spirit. At work since creation, having previously ‘spoken through the prophets’, the Spirit will now be with and in the disciples to teach them and guide them ‘into all the truth’. Thespirit is sent to the apostles and to the Church both bythe Father in the name of the Son and by the Son inperson, once he had returned to the Father, i.e., afterhis glorification.
On the day of the Pentecost, therewas this outpouring of the Spirit in the form oftongues of fire. The Apostles began preaching theKingdom of God by which the mission of Christ andthe Holy Spirit is brought to completion in the Church, which is the Body of Christ and the Temple of theHoly Spirit. Through baptism every Christian is bornanew as child of God in the Holy Spirit. The HolySpirit sustains the life of a Christian through his giftsand perfects it with the fruits of the spirit. On the dayof the Pentecost, the 50th day after Easter, wecelebrate the feast of the Holy Spirit.
